Hi, I'm Sherrie Hicks

WHO AM I?

I graduated high school in Orlando, Florida. After graduating from the University of TN at Martin (Go Skyhawks!) I lived in New Orleans and Nashville before moving to Germantown.

Steve and I met and married in Nashville, TN and have lived in Germantown for 26 years. We have three sons who graduated from Germantown schools. Our oldest son graduated from Germantown High School in 2014, the United States Military Academy-West Point in 2018 and was married in 2019 giving us a wonderful daughter-in-law. He is currently deployed with the US Army. Our middle son graduated Houston High School in 2016 and is currently working on a degree in Computer Science from Mississippi State University. Our youngest son is in 12th grade at Houston High School and recently earned the rank of Eagle Scout.

We are grateful to live in this wonderful city. Our three boys have been raised in a safe community with strong schools and countless opportunities.

Alongside a career in medical sales, I have served and led our community in many ways:

  • President of two neighborhood associations (Poplar Estates Neighborhood Association, various roles 1994-2009, and Dogwood Grove Homeowner’s Association, various roles 2009-Current)

  • Leadership Germantown, Class of 2000

  • Design Review Commission, City of Germantown,  2001-2002

  • Planning Commission, City of Germantown, 2003-2007, 2018-Current

  • President of Houston Middle School PTA (PTO). Various other roles in PTA and PTO.  2015-2019

  • President of the Germantown Council of Neighborhood Associations, 2013-2014

  • Board of Zoning and Appeals, City of Germantown, 2016-2017

  • Team Read Volunteer, 2017-2019

  • Germantown Education Foundation, Secretary, 2019-Current

  • Advocate for Dogwood Grove neighbors to be removed from FEMA Flood zone, 2013-2018

It is surprising how we look back at our own upbringing and can clearly see where our strongest influences came from. As a very young girl, I saw my Grandmother, Muriel W. Pease, bring her neighbors together in Astor, FL. Astor had no gathering place for residents. She and a small group of people met around her dining room table and years later the Muriel W. Pease Astor Community Association (ACA) was built. That building housed the first library in Astor and still stands as a community gathering place.

I truly enjoy working with and learning from my neighbors. I look forward to meeting you, working with you and learning from you during this campaign and hopefully over my years as an Alderman.

WHY AM I RUNNING FOR ALDERMAN?

I am happily pursuing the next step in my 25+ years of community service. Germantown has given my family so much, and it is time for me to give back. At the same time, I am eager to move Germantown forward.

In the time we have lived here, we have seen our police response times decrease, our ambulance response times cut in half, our city tax revenues grow, our library become our own, our parks receive national recognition, our financial stability rewarded with AAA bond ratings from two ratings agencies and our schools grow even stronger. Our city is financially stable with an outstanding quality of life that raises all our property values. I am running to ensure we focus on these qualities that make Germantown the most desirable community in the State.
